Dentro das atividades de comemoração do 11º aniversário da IWS, participei de um desafio que consistia em confeccionar uma pintura utilizando aquarela e também tinta chinesa.
Desde o início quis desenvolver algo que não usasse o preto da tinta chinesa apenas para desenhar ou fazer alguma base tonal para pintar por cima. Acredito que o desafiador nesse caso seria mesmo incorporar a tinta realmente na pintura da aquarela.
A dificuldade nesse caso é que são tintas com propriedades diferentes. A tinta chinesa cobre o branco do papel muito rapidamente e sua característica de pigmento queimado geralmente “suja”as cores se misturada com a aquarela. As duas tintas também se dispersam de maneiras diferentes sobre a umidade. Com base nisso, resolvi aproveitar as características de cada tinta para uni-las em um tema mais contrastante.
Within the activities celebrating the 11th anniversary of the IWS, I participated in a challenge that consisted on making a painting using watercolor and also Chinese ink.
From the beginning I wanted to develop something that didn’t use Chinese ink black just to draw or make some tonal base to paint over. I believe that the challenge in this case would really be to incorporate the paint into the watercolor painting.
The difficulty in this case is that they are paints with different properties. Chinese ink covers the white of the paper very quickly and its burnt pigment characteristic generally “dirty” the colors if mixed with watercolor. The two inks also disperse in different ways on humidity. Based on this, I decided to take advantage of the characteristics of each ink to unite them into a more contrasting theme.
Elegi uma referência em que os escuros seriam fortes o bastante para que eu pudesse realmente bloquear toda a luz do papel onde o preto entrasse. E também era necessário que a imagem tivesse uma gama de matizes reduzida, para que o preto pudesse se harmonizar dentro da informação cromática. Achei que um tema de natureza me deixaria explorar as características de dispersão no molhado que a tinta chinesa poderia me proporcionar, como na vegetação, galhos de árvore e um chão de terra bem irregular. Criando efeitos de borda onde a superfície poderia se pintar por si só, considerando apenas o bom preparo da superfície e a colocação bem precisa do pigmento em poucas pinceladas.
I chose a reference where the darks would be strong enough that I could really block all the light from the paper where the black came in. And it was also necessary that the image had a reduced range of hues, so that the black could harmonize within the chromatic information. I thought a nature theme would let me explore the wet dispersion characteristics Chinese ink could give me, such as vegetation, tree branches and a very uneven dirt ground. Creating edge effects where the surface could paint itself, considering only the good preparation of the surface and the very precise placement of the pigment in a few strokes.
A pintura se desenrolou em mais ou menos uns 30 minutos, e a fiz duas vezes para poder me adequar aos requisitos de tempo, já que o vídeo de apresentação, mesmo acelerado não podia passar de 10 minutos.

The painting unfolded in about 30 minutes, and I did it twice to be able to adapt to the time requirements, since the presentation video, even accelerated, could not exceed 10 minutes.
